The Up HouseSEATTLE’S SYMBOL OF STUBBORN RESISTANCE TO COMMERCIALISM IS SELLING OUT. Well, not so much selling out as being sold.

The original owner, Ms. Masefield, long since gone, turned down big bucks in order to stay in her little bungalow, defying the corporations who built towering concrete and steel structures intimidatingly up and around her home. She just sat there smiling until she died. Gotta love that woman!

A North Carolina investment company has it now, after a subsequent owner defaulted on the mortgage, so it will soon be gone.

But, I am sure it will pop up in someone’s book. That’s the beauty of being a writer. In our stories, we can do anything we want – we can turn the houses into people. Maybe the 24-Hour Fitness gym next door will fall in love with the little house. Opposites attract, right? Maybe a long-lost daughter from Ms. Masefield’s wilder, younger days will emerge and claim the little house, keeping the flowers along the front fence watered for years to come.

Hmmmm…..
